The PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana is expected to help around 12 crore poor farmers in India, however, till date (as informed by the Niti Aayog's core committee on agriculture), the number of farmers getting registered for the scheme is near about 25 per cent of the total number of the targeted farmers. The major reason for this is lack of proper registration awareness among the farmers and strict regulation by the government so that it reached to the actual beneficiary for whom the scheme is meant for.

However, before going for registration under the scheme, a farmer must ensure some eligibility criteria that he or she must fulfil otherwise he or she won't be able to register under the scheme. The eligibility criteria for a farmer for PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme is as follows:

a) A farmer's family i.e. farmer himself or herself, wife/husband and  child less than 18 years, with 2 Hectares or 5 Acres of land;

b) Applicant farmer's name must appear in land records as on February 1, 2019;

c) Those farmers who have 2 Hectares or 5 Acres of land but farming doesn't take place on their land won't be eligible for the scheme registration; and

d) If a farmer's land is spread, then the calculation of the land area would be done and if it fulfils the land size mentioned above, only then he or she would be eligible for the benefits.

So, fully informed is better than less informed while going for registration under the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme or any other welfare scheme.
