People have no respite from the increasing oil prices even today. The oil prices have touched a record high. The oil marketing companies today hiked petrol prices by 14 paise and diesel prices by 15 paise a litre.

In Mumbai, petrol is being sold for Rs 88.26 per litre while diesel is being retailed for Rs 77.47 a litre today. The petrol and diesel prices were Rs 88.12 and Rs 77.32 on Monday.

The petrol is being sold at Rs 80.87 and diesel at Rs 72.97 per litre in the national capital. In Delhi, petrol prices were Rs 80.73 while diesel prices were Rs 72.83 on Monday. The oil prices are cheaper in Delhi due to lower tax by the state government.

The central government has ruled out any cut in duties to reduce the oil prices.

Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh, however, have announced some relief for people by reducing the prices by Rs 2.5 a litre and Rs 2 a litre respectively.

The Rajasthan government has slashed the VAT by 4 per cent. It will cost the exchequer Rs 2,000 crore.

The oil prices are on a rise due to increasing Brent crude prices and falling rupee value against the dollar. Brent crude oil was up 35 cents at $77.18 a barrel on Monday after touching a high of $77.92 a barrel.
