The PAN card is one of the most used identity documents in India. The Permanent Account Number or the PAN is a distinct 10 digit alphanumeric code that is issued by the Income Tax Department. Several individuals apply for a PAN card or update/correct the PAN card every now and then. One gets an acknowledgement number along with the application by which they can track their PAN application/status. The PAN card acknowledgement number is a unique 15-digit number that is generated post the submission of the PAN card application. However, a person can track the PAN card status only after seven days of filling the application. 

Here is how one can check and  track their PAN, with both the UTI as well as NSDL portal

Steps to check PAN card status on UTI website:

  • Go to the UTI website
  • Open the tracking page on the UTI site
  • Enter the application coupon number or your existing PAN
  • Carefully enter the captcha code
  • Enter submit
  • Post clicking on submit, one can see their PAN status on the UTI portal.

Steps to check PAN card status on NSDL website:

  • Go to the NSDL website
  • Open the tracking page on the NSDL site
  • Click on “PAN – New/Change Request” mentioned in the Application Type section drop down.
  • Enter the 15 digit acknowledgement number
  • Carefully enter the captcha code
  • Enter submit
  • Post clicking on submit, one can see their PAN status on the NSDL portal.

If you do not have a PAN acknowledgment number, then too they can check their PAN card's status. Steps to check PAN card status without acknowledgement number:

  • Open the tracking page on the NSDL site
  • Click on “PAN – New/Change Request” mentioned in the Application Type section drop down.
  • Select Name section
  • Enter you First name, Last name, middle name (if any) and date of birth
  • Enter submit
  • Post clicking on submit, one can see their PAN status
