The output index of eight core industries has risen 5.0% in September on account of growth in steel production and an increase in refinery products production.

The index of eight core industries in September this year stood at 176.1 as against 167.7 in the corresponding period of last year, showed the Ministry of Commerce and Industry data on Monday.

The eight core industries comprise nearly 38% of the weight of items included in the index of industrial production (IIP).

The cumulative growth of eight core industries during April to September period of this fiscal was up 4.6% to 177.7 as compared to 169.9 in the same period of last fiscal, it said.

The production of steel during September increased by 16.4% to 233.4 as against 200.6 in the similar period of previous fiscal.

Similarly, the production of refinery products during the period surged up 9.3% to 186.1 as compared to 170.3 in the same period of last fiscal.
