The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation or IRCTC has come up with several services for Indian Railways passengers in 2019. IRCTC introduced an OTP-based refund system, new IRCTC PNR linking and refund policy, among other services for passengers. It also introduced India's first ever private train - Tejas Express which started its operation from October 5, 2019. . As the year comes to end, here is a look at some of these services and how you can use them to make your journey more comfortable.

OTP Based Refund System -

This system allows passengers to know about the refund details of cancelled train tickets which were booked through IRCTC-Registered agents. The feature informs the passengers about the exact amount received by the agents when a ticket is cancelled on remains unconfirmed on the wait-list. The scheme is designed for effective cancellation refund process for the customer.

The feature works through the One Time Password feature. The OTP is sent to the registered number of the passengers and has to be shared with the agent to get the refund amount.

PNR Linking -

The feature is useful for those who are on connecting journeys. It allows users to link the PNRs of two trains while booking tickets. In case the first train is delayed due to any reasons and the passengers end up missing the second train, they can claim full refund through the linked PNRs. You will be required to link the PNR number of second train with the PNR number first train while purchasing the tickets.

Compensation for Delays -

The passengers on Delhi-Lucknow Tejas Express will be paid Rs 100 for a daily of one hour and Rs 250 if the train is delayed by over two hours. Apart from that, they are also given Rs 1 lakh coverage and Rs 25 lakh free insurance  against household theft and robbery during journey.
