The prices of onions and tomatoes that have risen drastically in the past few weeks are getting close to two-year highs in the vendor markets in India.

Average prices of onions went up by 75-80% this week, touching Rs 26-27 per kg in India and is expected to touch Rs 30 per kg. While tomato prices have reached Rs 100 per kg.

However online grocers like BigBasket, Grofers, ZopNow and Reliance Fresh have been selling vegetables slightly cheaper for larger quantities of 5kg.

On Grofers, one kg of onions are going for Rs 23. The company is offering discounts on purchase of larger quantities.

BigBasket is offering a two kg ‘value pack’ of onions for Rs 52.

ZopNow and Realince Fresh are offering 5kg of onions for Rs 130 and Rs 125 respectively, essentially bringing down the cost per kg.

Reliance Fresh is offering a kilo of tomatoes for Rs 64.

One kg of tomatoes on Grofers is being sold for Rs 88. While BigBasket and ZopNow is offering the same for Rs 89.

The online websites like Grofers offer customers free delivery over specified minimum orders of Rs 500.
