New Rs 100 banknote: The Reserve Bank of India said on Thursday that it will soon issue new Rs 100 notes in lavender with a picture of the ‘Rani ki vav’ stepwell located on the banks of Saraswati river in Gujarat. “All Rs 100 banknotes issued earlier will also continue to be legal tender,” the central bank said.

Dimensions of the banknote will be 66 mm x 142 mm, making it smaller than the current ones. The current note is 157 mm x 73 mm. “As is normal, when a new banknote is introduced, printing and supply for distribution to public through banking channels increases gradually,” RBI said.

The new Rs 100 note follows, new notes in the denomination of Rs 10, Rs 50, Rs 500, Rs 200 and Rs 2,000 introduced after demonitisation November 8, 2016.
