He said the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has made another important change in order to secure the vehicles. The changes have been approved in the design of tyres of vehicles, which will be made according to the new design from October 1. And from April 1 next year, vehicles will be sold only with new tyres.

Explaining the new rolled-out notification, he said that the new rules for tyre design will be applicable from October 1, 2022. AIS-142:2019 Stage 2 is mandatory for C1, C2, and C3 category tyres. This will be mandatory in new vehicles from April 1, 2023.

Describing what the order says, he said, according to the Automotive Indian Standard (AIS), the quality and design of tyres of the vehicles will now be as per AIS-142:2019. The new tyre will have to be made safe keeping in view friction of the road, grip on the wet road, and control at high speed as well as the noise it makes while driving. With this, the customer can know how safe the tyre is while buying.

Moreover, he notified that the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Heavy Industries are also going to launch star ratings for the tyres soon. The rating will help the customer to choose the best and safest tire according to his usage.

This is a piece of good news for big tyre manufacturing companies as there would be less competition from the outside market, market expert Ambarish Baliga said on being asked about his views on this new norm.

He recommended buying Apollo tyres and JK Tyres stocks from the segment.
