National Girl Child Day 2022: National Girl Child Day is celebrated in India every year on January 24. The Ministry of Women and Child Development initiated the celebration of National Girl Child Day in 2008.

The National Girl Child Day 2022 is being celebrated across the nation with objectives of generating awareness on the issue of declining Child Sex Ratio (CSR) and creating a positive environment around valuing the girl child.

The celebrations also mark the anniversary of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme.

On the occasion of National Girl Child Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted from his official Twitter handle, "National Girl Child Day is an occasion to reiterate our commitment and further strengthen ongoing efforts to empower the girl child. It is also a day to celebrate the exemplary accomplishments of the girl child in different fields."

 

In a subsequent tweet, the PM tweeted, "In every development initiative undertaken by our Government, we accord immense priority to empowering the girl child and strengthening our Nari Shakti. Our focus is on ensuring dignity as well as opportunities to the girl child."

 

This year, the Ministry of Women and Child Development celebrates the National Girl Child Day in the backdrop of 75 years of Indian Independence - Azadi Ka Amirt Mahotsav. The highlights of the event are as follows:

1) Achievements of Ministries in empowering Girl Child
2) Felicitates young female achievers under 20 years of age
3) Launch of new schemes aimed at the Girl Child
4) Selfie with daughter - 75 lakhs

The objective of celebrating National Girl Child Day is as follows:

1) Highlight the inequalities faced by girls in the country
2) Promote awareness about the rights of a girl child
3) Generate awareness on the importance of girl education, health and nutrition

The various ministries of the government of India like the Ministries of Education, Sports, Skill Development and the Department of Science and Technology, have undertaken various initiatives and programmes for progress and empowerment of the girls.
