Mumbai Local Train News Today: In a relief to the passengers, the Indian Railways will run 1686 suburban services on Mumbai division from today August 16, 2021. The Central Railway has tweeted about this information from its official Twitter handle.

The tweet from the official Twitter handle of Central Railway said, "CR to run 1686 suburban services on Mumbai division from 16.08.2021."

 

It has to be noted that at present, Central Railway is running 1612 services on suburban network of Mumbai division. Now, with the increase of 74 services, the total services of 1686 services on its all suburban services will become 95 per cent of the pre-COVID services. The services before COVID-19 were 1774. The passengers have been advised to wear mask for their safety.

Incidentally, the Mumbai local train services resumed for those who have taken both the shots of COVID-19 vaccine from Sunday, August 15, 2021.

An ANI report stated that the passengers were restricted from commuting in local trains from the first week of April due to the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. While speaking to news agency ANI, Kishore, a commuter said, "It will give relief to the people. People should follow the SOPs and COVID protocols issued by the government."

The ANI report further informed that Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had started with an offline verification process for  fully vaccinated people and issuing monthly passes at 53 railway stations. Iqbal Singh Chahal, BMC Commissioner said, "...in order to make it convenient for the citizens to travel in local trains and obtain Railway Monthly Pass, an offline verification process for COVID-19 Final Vaccination (completed 14 days after the second dose) will start from August 11 at 53 railway stations in BMC jurisdiction area and a total of 109 railway stations in Mumbai Metropolitan Region. It will be functional in two consecutive sessions from 7AM to 11 AM."

On August 8, 2021, news agency ANI has tweeted about the decision of the Maharashtra CM regarding the restoration of the local train services in Mumbai from its official Twitter handle. The tweet said, "Mumbai local train services to start from August 15 for people who have taken both doses of COVID19 vaccine: Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray."

Thackeray has further informed ANI, "Passengers can download (local) train passes through the mobile app. Those who do not have smartphones can take photo passes from municipal ward offices in the city as well as suburban railway stations."
