Mumbai airport is one of the among busiest airports in the country having two terminal points for flights to take off and landing purposes. The terminal 1 is exclusively kept for budget airlines. It has 11 terminal boarding bridges. The handling capacity is 10 million passengers per year. On the other hand, terminal 2 is extensively used for international flights and some selective domestic flights. The budget carrier SpiceJet has announced that they will shift its entire Mumbai operations to Terminal 2 of the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport from September 22, 2019. The transition is being planned and implemented by the airline with the support of Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL).

The airport has an area of 210,000 sq. meters, so it takes 20 minutes’ drive from T1 to T2. As per the SpiceJet official website, the decision of moving the entire airline operation of SpiceJet will shift to Terminal 2 of Mumbai Airport is taken to enhance passenger convenience and improve the connectivity of International and domestic passengers.

The consolidation of operations (both passenger and cargo) will help SpiceJet efficiently service thousands of passengers travelling with SpiceJet to and from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport across both its domestic and international networks by consolidating operations under one Terminal. The carrier says that this step will lead to better synergies and cut down costs substantially for the airline.

The airline tweeted, "Effective 22 September 2019 the entire airline operation of SpiceJet will shift to Terminal 2 of Mumbai Airport."

The website also mentioned that they have informed the passengers about the shift via emails, SMS notifications, social media updates well in advance. Also, Spicejet has informed that if in case, there are customers who are still not aware of this move, SpiceJet has made special arrangements for passengers to be dropped at T2.

It is worth mentioning that in case if you miss the flight due to this Terminal change then the airline mentioned that as long as the passengers reach SpiceJet’s airport counters 45 minutes prior to the time of departure of their flight, the airline will make every effort to connect them to their flight. However, if the passengers are not able to make it on time, SpiceJet will reschedule their flight without any additional charges for travel dates up to 7 days or refund their ticket in full.
