Local Area Network (LAN) failure at the Mumbai airport caused delay in flight take-offs on Tuesday, as  baggage check-in system at both the terminals were affected.  The technical glitch also affected issuance of boarding passes. However, the flight operations resumed within a short period of time. Check-in and boarding pass issuing were affected for more than an hour following the network problem. However, a team was reportedly pressed into service immediately and they resolved the issue.

Additional manpower were deployed to look into operational measures, said spokesperson of Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL). “We regret the inconvenience caused to the passengers due to an unexpected technical glitch. The team efficiently resolved the issue and operations resumed within a short period of time,” the MIAL spokesperson was quoted as saying.

The LAN failure was reported at 4.45 pm, and resolved at around 5.50 pm, DNA reported. However, telecommunication system such as the telephone or walkie talkie were not affected by the glitch, MAIL said.

The system breakdown which lasted for nearly 65 minutes, forced airlines to manually check-in passengers leading to serpentine queues at the counters. Airlines operating out of Mumbai were affected by the glitch. The flights that were scheduled at the time departed after the problem was solved.
