Post the heavy rains that lashed vast areas of Malda and North Dinjapur districts in north Bengal, the rising water levels of prominent rivers have left vast regions swamped, said officials on Tuesday.

In case of Malda, the river Fulhar is flowing above danger level, swallowing a number of villages in the northern part of the district. Additionally, Chandpur, Rashidpur, Miyahat, Kauadol, North and South Bhakuria villages under Harishchandrapur 1 Block too are submerged due to the heavy rains. 

Furthermore, several number of villages under Ratua 1 Block have been inundated. River Mahananda is currently flowing three metres above danger mark in Englishbazar along with the Ganga's water level inching near Manikchaghat. 

Rivers have breached through the bamboo bridges in a number of areas in North Dinjapur, along with many reports of roads being caved in at a number of points.

Water logging has been an issue in a few wards of Dalkhola municipality. Meanwhile, Sudhani and Nagor rivers are filling up the Karandighi block. 

To provide relief to the people affected severely by the lashing rains, the administration has distributions of tarpaulin sheets and dry fruits, apart from relief camps. 

According to Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the rains will continue in regions of North Bengal as well as parts of Bihar for the next couple of days.
