Hyderabad-based infrastructure company Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Limited (MEIL) has become the lowest bidder (L-1) for the construction of Zojilla Pass Tunnel in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. MEIL topped the list by quoting less than other companies. The National Highways and Industrial Development Corporation (NHIDCL) opened the bids on Friday.

The Government had called for tenders to complete this road tunnel. The tenders were called for the construction of 14.15 km of road for the Zojilla tunnel. On 30 July, three companies submitted the bids to NHIDCL. MEIL quoted Rs 4509.50 cr to execute the projects – lowest among all the bidders.  

The project is to be constructed in 2 divisions in two sections of about 33 kilometres. The first section is to be developed by constructing the 18.50-kilometre road, NHIDCL said today.

The first part is to widen the existing road from Judd-Morha to Zojilla tunnel about 3. 018 kilometres. A 13.842 kilometres new road is to be constructed.
