Maharashtra Weather: Monsoon arrives in Mumbai as it was raining heavily on Wednesday. On Tuesday, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said that monsoon onset could be declared over Mumbai from June 9, 2021, and high rain is expected in the city and its adjoining areas from Thursday, June 10, 2021. The IMD has also issued a yellow alert.

The IMD has also recently tweeted, "Southwest Monsoon is likely to advance into more parts of Maharashtra (including Mumbai) today the 09th of June and likely to advance into more parts of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh; some parts of Odisha and more parts of West Bengal during the next 2 days." The IMD has also issued an orange alert for Saturday, June 12, 2021, that indicates heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places. 

 

Shubangi Bhute, scientist (IMD) was quoted saying to TOI, "Many parts of Mumbai are already reporting rain. Conditions are favourable for monsoon onset in Konkan region, including Mumbai. There are chances of heavy rain in some areas in the coming days." 

The Regional Meteorological Center, Mumbai tweeted on June 7, 2021, "Severe weather warnings over the region during next 5 days. Increase in rainfall activity expected over Konkan and adjoining ghat areas pf Madhya Maharashtra from 10th June." 

 

The IMD has suggested that one should check for traffic congestion on one's route before leaving for a destination. Furthermore, it has urged people to follow traffic advisories and avoid areas prone to waterlogging. It has also suggested to avoid staying in vulnerable structures. 

As per the IMD, the rainfall recorded from 8.30 AM yesterday to 5.30 AM today over Mumbai is as follows: Colaba: 65.4 mm and Santacruz: 50.4 mm.
