Zee Business reporter Anurag Shah reported that the Maharashtra cinema exhibition industry is losing Rs 400 crore every month and has lost Rs 4800 crore since March last year. It has to be noted that the cinema screens in Maharashtra employ a large number of people.

Shah reported that more than 1000 cinema screens within Maharashtra employ lakhs of people and the industry's condition has deteriorated considerably due to the continuous lockdown.

The appeal made by the film industry said that under unlock guidelines, malls, airlines, restaurants, gyms, local trains, main travels have been approved, however, cinema halls have remained closed so far. The organisations also argue that theatres are professionally run where all government SOP can be implemented.

It has to be noted that all the states across the country have approved the reopening of the cinema halls except Maharashtra, where the closure of the cinema halls in still in force though the largest part of the film industry is connected to Maharashtra and Mumbai.

As per Shah's report, the film industry has suggested that the Maharashtra government should approve the opening of cinema at the earliest and give priority to vaccination to the people engaged in its functioning.
