Easing of lockdown restrictions a little from today augurs well for the economy and the country as a whole because till the government lifts restrictions, it will not be possible to come to terms with the post lockdown situation, Zee Business Managing Editor Anil Singhvi said.

The lockdown cannot remain for an indefinite period and India cannot wait for the last person to get cured before economic activity resumes, he added. While the lockdown is necessary, the country is paying a price because of the lockdown, he added.

 Lauding India's overall efforts on being able to control the pandemic, Singhvi said that the country has been able to put up a good show till now.

On what India needs to do, Singhvi said that the country will achieve a remarkable feat if it manages to control the spread of virus despite relaxing lockdown restriction, the Managing Editor said.

The country will have to tread cautiously, from here he adds further.

Significantly, the results of easing-off of restrictions have not been great in other countries with Spain and Singapore being cases in point. Maximum cases were reported from Spain on the day lockdown restrictions were lifted while in Singapore coronavirus cases spiked after the restrictions were eased.

Notably, the Indian government is easing lockdown restrictions at different places from today, especially those regions which are considered to be green or orange zones.

From today, roads, railways and cargo planes will be allowed to resume transportation operations. Work related to agriculture, sale-purchase of agricultural goods, production and sale of fertiliser, fishery, tea garden operations with 50 per cent staff, milk collection, processing and transport will begin. The government has also allowed IT companies to work with 50 per cent workforce.
