To make the occasion of Karwa Chauth special for married women teachers engaged in the higher, secondary and basic education department, Uttar Pradesh government has announced that all married women teachers may avail leave on October 17, 2019. Karwa Chauth is one of the most prominent Hindu festivals celebrated in India by married women. It is a popular culture propagated as an occasion to celebrate the marital bond between the couple. And this is the first time when the provision has been made such a special decision for married women.

Karva Chauth is based on the lunisolar calendar. The festival falls on the fourth day after the full moon also known as Sankashti Chaturthi, in the Purnima calendar month of Kartik. The terms 'Karaka' or 'Karwa' refer to a small pitcher. In this festival, the married women fast from sunrise to moonrise without water to wish for happiness, well-being and long life for the husband.
