Karnataka Assembly elections 2018: As the campaigning for the Karnataka Assembly polls due on May 12 came to a close on Thursday, BJP national president Amit Shah claimed that the party would register a convincing victory with over 130 seats. Shah accused the Congress of joining hands with ‘anti-national’ forces like the controversial Popular Front of India (PFI) and the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), which have a base in the Muslim community, especially in the coastal belt.

Speaking to the media on Thursday, Shah said the BJP would “form the government in Karnataka by winning a minimum of over 130 seats.” “The Congress President says he has faith in uniting people. Then, why are Congress candidates conspiring to win the elections by seeking support from organisations which want to break the country,” Shah said while attacking the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government for the commemoration of Tipu Jayanti while neglecting icons from the state.

“The people of Karnataka know why this happened... For appeasement and vote bank politics,” he said.

On Congress president Rahul Gandhi saying that PM Modi was personally attacking him to divert the public attention, Shah said, “What do you expect from Rahul Gandhi? He will say this because there are no other issues. Narendra Modiji has laid down what can be done for development of Karnataka while speaking to our (booth-level) workers.”

“The Congress is trying its traditional, non-democratic ways to win the elections... This is how desperate the Congress is to win the elections,” he said referring to the recovery of ‘fake’ voter identity cards in a flat in the Rajarajeshwari Nagar constituency.
