Kargil Vijay Diwas 2021: On July 26, 1999, the Indian armed forces had defeated Pakistan in the Kargil War. Since then, July 26 is celebrated as 'Kargil Vijay Diwas'. The days honours the pride, valour and courage of the soldiers who took part in the Operation Vijay.

On the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas,  Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday paid homage to soldiers who made sacrifice during the Kargil War. He also shared an excerpt from last year's 'Mann Ki Baat'. Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted from his official Twitter handle, "We remember their sacrifices. We remember their valour. Today, on Kargil Vijay Diwas we pay homage to all those who lost their lives in Kargil protecting our nation. Their bravery motivates us every single day. Also sharing an excerpt from last year’s ’Mann Ki Baat.’"

 

According to an ANI report, Gopichand Pandey, father of late Captain Manoj Pandey said that the Kargil War was one of the toughest wars in the world where the enemy has an advantage of the altitude. However, the Indian Army fought hard and reclaimed the peaks.

While speaking to news agency ANI, Pandey shared the immense pride, he has for his son as his son has lived up to the responsibilities as an Army man. He said that he is proud that his son gave his life for his motherland and became an inspiration for many.

Pandey recalled that in the Kargil War, the situation was very bad as the terrorists had made bunkers at the Indian mountain peaks. He further added that his son has made the entire nation proud. He said, "He lived up to his responsibilities as an Army man. Happy to share that UP Sainik School has been renamed after him."

The martyr's father recalled how the opposition army was attacking the Indian Army from the top. Nevertheless, the fight put up by the Indian soldiers helped them to reclaim their mountains and lands. As many as 527 army men died in the quest.

Captain Manoj Pandey was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra for his courage and leadership during the Kargil War in 1999. He was an officer of the 1st battalion, 11 Gorkha Rifles (1/11 GR). He sacrificed his life during the attack on Jubar Top of the Khalubar Hills in Batalik Sector of Kargil.
