It is a big day for the people of Kanpur as the transport connectivity in the city, popularly known as 'Manchester' of UP, has got a major boost. In a big gift to residents of Kanpur, PM Narendra Modi-led Cabinet has approved the Kanpur Metro Rail Project. Uttar Pradesh has wholeheartedly welcomed the Union Cabinet's decision to approve Metro rail project for Kanpur. UP CM Yogi Adityanath has thanked PM Narendra Modi and Union Cabinet for approving modern urban mobility project for Kanpur. According to UP government, "The Kanpur Metro rail project will ensure modern, safe and comfortable journey to daily commuters in Kanpur."

1st corridor: IIT Kanpur to Naubasta 

The length of IIT Kanpur to Naubasta corridor is 23.785 km

This  IIT Kanpur-Naubasta corridor is partly elevated and partly underground.

It is comprised of 22 stations

Out of these 22 stations, 14 will be elevated and 8 underground

2nd corridor: Agriculture University to Barra-8

The length of Agriculture University to Barra-8 corridor is 8.6 km 

It is comprised of 8 stations

Out of 8 stations, 4 will be elevated and 4 underground

Kanpur metro cost?

The 32.4 km long metro project in Kanpur will cost Rs 11076 Cr 

Project completion date?

The project is expected to reach its completion in 5 years 

Project details: 

Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation, a 50:50 jointly owned Company of Govt of India and Govt of Uttar Pradesh will be reconstituted as 'Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC)' for implementation of project.

The financing of Kanpur Metro Rail Project will be partly from Govt of India and Govt of Uttar Pradesh on equal equity basis and partly as soft loan from Bilateral/Multilateral international funding agency/agencies. 

Reacting this big development, UP CM Yogi Adityanath tweeted,"Our sincere thanks to Hon. PM Sh. @narendramodi Ji and Union Cabinet for approving modern urban mobility projects for two cities in UP. To be completed in 5 yrs, these metro projects will ensure modern, safe and comfortable journey to daily commuters of Agra and Kanpur." 
 

"Uttar Pradesh wholeheartedly welcome Union Cabinet's decision to approve Metro rail projects for Agra and Kanpur. The 32.4 km long metro project in Kanpur will cost ₹11076 Cr while the 29.4 km Agra Metro will cost ₹8379 cr," the UP CM added through another tweet.
