Jewar airport: Land acquisition plan submitted to UP CM Yogi Adityanaths office for approval

Proposed Jewar airport near Noida, which has been marred by controversy over acquisition of land, may soon see the light of day, as a detailed report has recently been submitted to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's office for approval. The district administration of Gautam Budh Nagar, which was assigned the task to identify the land for the airport, submitted the report.

Citing an official, the Hindustan Times report said the state government will begin possession of land by October or November, as the process needs Chief Minister's approval on social impact assessment (SIA) report prior to the land acquisition.

“As per procedure, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will first approve the social impact assessment (SIA) report and the process of land acquisition will begin soon after," district magistrate BN Singh told HT.

Notably, SIA report was presented to the state Chief Seceratery, Anup Chandra Pandey, Sept 25 in Lucknow for his assent. Initially, the government will reportedly acquire 1257 hectares of land from six villages along the Yamuna Expressway.

Earlier the plan was to acquire 1441 hectares of land from eight villages including Kishorpur, Mukimpur Shivara, Banwaribas, Ramner, Parohi, Rohi, Ranhera and Dayanatpur, but now the district administration has reportedly decided to exclude two villages, Mukimpur Shivara and Kishorpur, in first phase of the project.

Project consultant PricewaterhouseCoopers(PwC) India along with government officials are reportedly studying the concession agreement of the Centre's planning department. Notably, a concession agreement is a grant of rights, land or property by a government, local authority, corporation, individual or other legal entity.

A senior official told HT, “The PwC is revising the concession agreement. Once the state government approves the agreement modalities, the process of selection of a developer for the project will start.”

Once this proposal is notified, the official reportedly said that the focus will shift to rehabilitation plan for around 2,200 families, whose houses will be relocated. The entire project, which will cost Rs 15,000-Rs 20,000 crore, the government will require 5,000 hectares of land.
