Under the mission transformation, the ministry officials have decided to reduce the jerk caused during a break to the least. This problem was first resolved in the premium trains like Rajdhani and Shatabdi express. The Railways made changes in the design of couplers connecting two coaches to reduce the jerk.

With the success of this experiment in Rajdhani and Shatabdi express trains, Indian Railways has embarked upon a plan to make changes in the design of coupler connecting coaches or bogies in different trains. Technically, the railway started filling the gap between the coupler.

To understand it better, the coupler connects two coaches like a chains, but there used to be a gap in the coupler joint, therefore, whenever the train started pushing a break, passengers experienced the jerk.

According to Rajesh Aggarwal, member rolling track, Railways Board, under the Mission Transformation, these changes have so far been introduced in 12000 trains. The trains with LHB coaches are no longer having this problem and the the goal has been achieved within a year.

The pace with which Indian Railways has completed this task in just 6-7 months in about 5000 trains, especially in all the premium trains, is really praise worthy, Rajesh Aggarwal told Zee Business, adding that the Railways aims to complete this task in all the passenger trains of the country in coming years.
