IRDAI Standard Health Policy for vector-borne diseases: Malaria, Dengue and other vector-borne diseases claim thousands of lives every year in India. Lack of awareness and costly treatment is said to be the main reasons behind these deaths. Keeping these in mind, Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has issued draft notification of Standard Health Policy for vector-borne diseases.

Let's have a look what draft notification of Standard Health Policy for vector-borne diseases entails:  
 
*Malaria, Dengue, Chikungunya, Kala-azar, filaria and encephalitis will be covered under the Standard Health Policy.

*IRADAI has asked all companies to keep same policy features, however, the premium could vary.

*Under the draft notification of IRDAI’s Standard Health Policy for vector-borne diseases, the sum assured will be between Rs 10,000 to Rs 2 lakh and there will be a single premium policy for one-year tenure.

*Customers will be given Individual and floater sum assured facilities.  

*Companies can’t fix premium based on geographical condition and there will be the same premium everywhere.

*IRDAI gives a waiting period of 15 days

*This will cover expenses of hospital, AYUSH treatment and cost incurred before and being admitted/discharged to/from the hospital.

*The policy seekers should be between 18 years and 65 years. It will also cover dependent children in the age group of 1 year to 25 years.

*The patients will be given protection from these diseases on low premium through the insurance.
