IRCTC Tatkal Booking rules 2019: Indian Railways is the lifeline of India. However, on several occasions, booking a ticket on time becomes impossible due to last minute rush but railways tatkal ticket services can help you. Indian Railways tatkal train tickets can be booked through Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) official website or app. The booking window for tatkal tickets opens at least 24 hours before the date of travel.

For example, if you want to travel on April 1, you will need to log in on the morning of March 31 to book your Tatkal tickets. While tatkal ticket bookings for AC class opens from 10 am, the window for non-AC class opens at 11 am. Also, there is a fixed 10 per cent rate of basic fare for second class and 30 per cent of basic fare for all other classes for tatkal tickets. The ticket price and charges are subject to the minimum and maximum distance that the train takes during the journey.

Step 1: Register as an individual, registration at IRCTC website is absolutely Free. If you already have a User ID, you can login by entering your user name and password

Step 2: The 'Book Your Ticket' page appears, Now provide your desired From - To station, Date of Journey and Class of travel. In case, you don’t have any fixed date of journey, select 'Flexible with Date' option.

Step 3: The next page displays the list of trains available for the selected route.

a. If you wish to know the route and the timings, click on the train name.
b. To select the train from the train list, click on the type of class available in the selected train.
c. The Quota option is available at right side of the above train list.
d. Select Quota as 'Tatkal' to book the Tatkal ticket.
e. To get the availability and fare, click on 'Check availability & fare' tab. It will show fare according to the type of class selected. The fare appearing is for a single adult Passenger.
f. If you wish to select other train, click on another train

Step 4: To book a Tatkal ticket in the selected train, click on 'Book Now' button.

a.  Maximum of four passengers per PNR can be booked on Tatkal e-tickets.
b. Passenger reservation page appears; check whether the train name, station names, class and journey date displayed at the left side of the page are same as desired by you.
c. Enter the Names of the Passengers, Age, Gender, Berth Preference and Food Choice for each passenger. The maximum length of names should be restricted to 16 characters.
d. Senior citizen concession is not allowed in Tatkal Quota.

e.  Click on 'Consider for Auto Upgradation' for automatic class upgradation after charting.f. Enter the verification code
g. Enter the Passenger mobile number to receive the booking and cancellation free SMS.
h.  Click on Next button.
i. After providing correct details, click on Continue Booking button. To change any details related to Train-ClassQuota, “Replan Booking” button can be used.

Step 5: The ticket details, Total fare (Including GST & Service charge) and availability of berths at the particular time appear on the screen.

a. To change any details related to Train-Class-Quota, Replan Booking button can be used.
b. To change any details related to Passengers, Back button can be used.
c. After checking all details, click on Continue Booking button for Payment process.

Step 6: All payment options have been grouped under specific categories (viz. Credit cards, Net banking, Wallets and Multiple payment service etc.

a. Select the desired Payment Option from the displayed Payment gateway menus.
b. Click on "Make Payment" button for redirection to selected Bank website.

Step 7: After successful payment and booking of accommodations, Ticket confirmation page is displayed.

a. Virtual reservation message (VRM) in the form of SMS will be received on Mobile number (as provided in the Passenger reservation form).
b. Booking confirmation mail will be received on Email ID (registered with IRCTC User ID)
c. To print Electronic Reservation Slip (ERS), 'Print Ticket' button can be used.
d. To book ticket for Return/Onward Journey, 'Book Return/Onward Ticket' button can be used. Using this option will retain the details of Passengers as provided in the current ticket.
e.  To book another ticket, 'Book Another Ticket' button can be used.
f. The customer can subsequently also print Electronic Reservation Slip from the link under 'My Account => My Transactions => Booked Ticket History.'

After the ticket booking process, the user will get an SMS on the registered mobile number. The SMS will include the tickets and seat numbers of the booked train. However, the passengers can also get a printout of the ticket from IRCTC website, in 'My Account => My Transactions => Booked Ticket History' tab.
