Indices on Monday plunged over 1% on back of weak global cues. The global investors remained nervous ahead of US Presidential debate.

At 1424 hours, BSE Sensex was trading at 28,353.10, down 315.12 points, or 1.10%. While NSE Nifty was at 8,736.80, down 95 points, or 1.07%.

All the major sectors were in red. Banking and Auto sectors were biggest losers with 305.02 points and 333.43 points down. Only Metal and Energy sector saw minor gains.

On 30-share benchmark, among the top gainers were Reliance Industries (1.23%), Lupin (0.76%), Power Grid (0.63%), Coal India (0.59%) and Dr Reddy's Laboratories (0.43%). Among losers were ONGC (-3.76%), Tata Motors (-3.08%), ICICI Bank (-2.83%), NTPC (-2.58%) and Bharti Airtel (-2.28%).

According to a Reuters report, Asian shares also plunged after losses on Wall Street as investors' attention turned from central banks to American politics ahead of the first US presidential debate. 

Investors awaited Monday evening's US presidential debate between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, which will take place early on Tuesday in Asian time zones.
