Indian Railways is planning to renovate the Vijayawada Railway station further this year. Railways is planning to invest Rs 40 crore for its development, reports Times of India. Vijayawada divisional railway manager R Dhananjayulu said between Platforms 1 and 10, they are planning to build another footover bridge along with an additional set of escalators in the railway station.

“Already, almost all platforms have one escalator each but the decision to have another set is to help passengers coming from different entrances to have quicker access to other platforms. Similarly, extra lifts will be built for passenger convenienve. This time, we are focusing on renovating retiring rooms for our railway staff and face-lifting the entrances under the budget," Dhananjayulu told TOI.

According to the report, at the platform 10 entrance area at Gandhi Hill side another parking lot is set to be developed. With over 150 trains on an average transiting the railway station on the daily basis, Vijyawada is the third busiest junction in Indian Railways. In order to decongest the same, Railways is also planning to develop Rayanapadu Junction as a satellite station.

The Railway officials are also planning to have special bus service with a tie up with APSRTC. The chaotic traffic near the Vijayawada station is also to be looked upon. Along with that the officials are also planning to construct underpasses at Madhura nagar area and Rayanapadu.
