The Railways have gone for an onslaught in getting people to use mobile UTS app for booking local train tickets. The Central Railway (CR) has started counters at stations where their staff are showing commuters how to use the mobile app. The Western Railway (WR) staff are being sent to corporate offices and malls to promote mobile UTS app. All this because mobile ticketing contributed a mere 0.10 to 0.40 per cent until early this month, in total sale of local train tickets.

The CR has setting up such stalls at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Matunga, Vashi, and many other stations. Sources said that this has been extended to 40 stations in the last few days. The staff here — wearing black t-shirt — are urging commuters to look at the option of mobile ticketing, using UTS app. On June 18, Chairman of Railway Board Ashwani Lohani inspected one such stall at CSMT station.

There is a small desk setup on the concourse where graphical representation of the mobile app is made. The staff was seen explaining commuters walking around the premises, or coming out from platforms. They were also helping them download the app on their cell phones and explaining to them how to easily book tickets without the need to stand in queues.
