Informing about the decent response, an official told Indian Express that more than single journey tickets, they are seeing huge response from season ticket pass holders who are renewing their passes on the application. The application allows one to book both paper and paperless tickets. The option of quick response code allows a commuter to print tickets booked on the app after reaching the station.
The Indian Railways is rolling out one passenger friendly feature after another, week after week to ensure a pleasant experience for its passengers. One such major step was the launch of Indian Railways mobile ticketing app. The service was slow to take off, but is getting traction now.
The service contributes only one per cent to the total suburban tickets booked in Indian Railways, which is about 80,000 to one lakh mobile ticket bookings on a daily basis. But despite gradual start, things are expected to change due to the UTS mobile application.

Regular commuters believe that while Indian Railways has improved the app on many counts, a lot more needs to be done. “The railways should allow commuters to book tickets from inside the station also. This helps commuters, who are switching from long distance trains to suburban route. They should also allow us to extend the route of our season tickets and introduce ‘tourist ticket’ option,” , a commuter, Vijay Aravamudhan told Indian Express.
Despite the various options to book suburban railway tickets, like Automatic Ticket Vending Machine (ATVM) and Jan Sadharan Ticket booking Sevak (JTBS), the popularity of the mobile-ticketing among commuters is increasing.
One can get the facility after registering themselves. Once registered, one could easily book a railway ticket of the nearest station via provided app.
A senior railway official said, “The commuter is required to be not more than 2 km from the station. The GPS co-ordinates will map the commuter’s position to trace the nearest railway station around. They are not allowed to book the ticket when inside the station as that could be misused.”

An another advantage is that in order to facilitate commuter’s next ticket booking, the app also records frequent routes taken by him . Besides, commuters can also book platform tickets and season tickets through the app.
So gone are the days of standing in long queues as the UTS mobile app of Indian railways helps one to book suburban railway tickets within ten minutes.
