Indian Railways has been improving its facilities to promote rail tourism and on top of that, it is also offering magnificent discounts to make the journey even better.  From the introduction of see-through Vistadome coaches on routes like Mumbai-Goa and Kalka-Shimla heritage section to new trains like Tejas Express and the upcoming Train 18, the Indian Railways is doing all that is possible to attract passengers and improve its image.

Also, to promote digital payments, the public transporter is offering a discount of 5 per cent on reserved tickets as well. The ministry had launched the scheme initially for three months in April last year. The discount offer was all set to expire however, the same has now been extended till June 13, 2019.

"Ministry of Railways have decided to extend the currency of the instructions regarding the provision of 5% discount on the total value of basic fare of PRS (reserved) counter ticket on booking of the reserved counter through UPI (Unified Payment Interface) including BHIM application up to 13.06.2019," the railways has said.

This means, if you reserve your Indian Railways tickets now, you can get a discount of 5% on the fare. One can avail the discount by making payments using any UPI including BHIM.

"Such discount shall be applicable only on reserved tickets booked across the reservation/booking counters when booked through UPI including BHIM application. The discount shall be applicable on tickets whose total value of basic fare of a ticket shall be Rs 100 and above. However, maximum discount on a ticket shall not be more than Rs 50," said the railways.

However, no discounts shall be applicable on unreserved single journey tickets/season tickets, reserved tickets booked online (e-ticket/I-ticket) etc, it said.
