Indian Railways passengers to get better internet connectivity at stations

Indian Railways passengers, who have experienced low internet connectivity while travelling on and during waiting at the station in the past, may get a better experience with online activities soon at 1000 Railway stations across the country. Indian Railways passengers will soon be able to enjoy free WiFi at 4,500 stations. Public sector company RailTel is the service provider. The PSU is laying optic fibre network along the railway track. Only halt stations will not have internet connectivity yet. 

This will provide the much-needed succour to passengers who may have faced connectivity problem earlier. In the coming years, internet connectivity is expected to be better as this initiative is in line with the government's Digital India efforts to increase digital penetration. 

Mumbai Suburban Line has become the 1000th station to be live with RailWire Wi-Fi.  More stations will come under the free WiFi area in the coming days. "RailWire Wi-Fi by RailTel is now Live at 1000 Railway Stations across the country. Reay Road Railway station of Mumbai Suburban Line becomes the 1000th Station to be live with RailWire Wi-Fi. Journey to achieve Digital India Continues!", RailTel tweeted.

About 6,441 stations will have free internet connectivity. Earlier, Rail Ministry and Tata Trusts had joined hands to bridge the digital divide by bringing WiFi access to 4791 stations across India. Additionally, the trusts will also provide basic health screenings through health and internet kiosks.
