Indian Railways has some important rules for passengers in regard to their train ticket, which they should know. According to the Indian Railways ticket rules for passengers, in certain conditions, it allows some concession that may go unclaimed due to the lack of information of railways passengers. The range of concession under train rules for passengers is from 10 per cent to even 100 per cent subject to certain conditions. The Minister for Railways Piyush Goyal put the information on the floor of the parliament while giving details of the foregone revenue due to the concession given on Indian Railways tickets under certain circumstances.

While giving details about the foregone revenue of the Indian Railways Piyush Goyal, Minister for Railways at Government of India said in the Lok Sabha, "Indian Railways extend travel concessions in passenger fare to 53 categories of passengers and the element of concession ranges from 10 per cent to 100 per cent."

According to the details being tabled by Piyush Goyal in the Lok Sabha, the Indian Railways ticket concession for passengers is available for the following categories — physically challenged, patients, senior citizens, Izzat MST (Monthly Season Ticket). So, if an Indian Railways passenger falls under any of these categories, he or she can claim a concession on train ticket.

Here are the details of Indian Railways concession for certain category train passengers on their train ticket:

1] Cancer patients travelling alone or with an attendant for treatment or periodic check-up are eligible for 75 per cent concession in 1st class, AC 2nd and AC chair car. This concession can be 100 per cent if the train ticket booked by the passenger is in 3rd AC or Sleeper class. For the first AC or Second AC, the concession is 50 per cent.

2] Thalassemia/Heart and Kidney patients travelling alone or with an attendant for treatment or periodic check-up can get 75 per cent in 2nd, SL, 1st Class, 3AC, AC chair Car, 50 per cent in 1AC and 2AC. One escort is also eligible for the same element of concession.

3] Haemophilia Patients – severe & moderate form of the disease - travelling alone or with an attendant for treatment or periodical check-up is eligible for 75 per cent concession in 2nd, SL, 1st Class, 3AC, AC chair Car. Patient's attendant will also get the same element of concession.

4] TB patients travelling alone or with an escort for treatment or periodical check-up are eligible for 75 per cent concession on its train ticket booked in 2nd, SL and 1st Class.

5] Ostomy patients - travelling for any purpose are eligible for 50 per cent concession in MST & QST.
