One of the drawbacks for booking a train ticket are convenience charges as they make it costly for passengers. However, booking a train ticket online is an easy and most flexible way of doing it as it it eliminates the need for standing at an Indian Railways station window. There are a host of banks that offer ticket booking features on Indian Railways catering service provider IRCTC and that too in just a few easy steps. However, they all levy transaction charges on your ticket while making the payment.

Here’s a list of transaction charges levied by IRCTC and banks for booking your Indian Railways ticket online.

Net Banking charges!

Banks like SBI, Federal Bank, Allahabad Bank, Axis Bank, HDFC Bank, Vijaya Bank, Oriental Bank of Commerce, Andhra Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Central Bank of India, ICICI Bank and IndusInd Bank - charge you Rs 10 plus applicable taxes on your train tickets. Even IRCTC levies the same on their net banking.

Meanwhile, there are banks like Indian Bank, Union Bank, PNB, Bank of India, Syndicate Bank and Corporate Bank, they charge you only Rs 10 per transaction for booking tickets via net banking. The only difference, is that these bank do not levy taxes along with the charges.

On other hand, if you book your ticket from Karur Vysya Bank, Bank of Maharashtra  and South Indian Bank, then you will not have to pay any extra charges and taxes. Booking tickets via these net banking are free.

Payment gateway Debit cards, credit cards!

If you are a Master and Visa card holder then, banks like CitiBank, HDFC Bank, Paytm, PayU and even IRCTC will charge you 1.8% plus taxes on your credit card usage for booking tickets. It is only Axis Bank which charges 1.65% plus taxes on credit cards.

For debit card, banks like CitiBank, Paytm, Union Bank, SBI among others, do not charge anything up to Rs 1 lakh usage. On the other hand, Axis Bank and HDFC Bank do not have any charges for using debit card.

Hence, if you are making payment using the above cards and also doing net banking for booking your train ticket, then make sure you are aware of the above mentioned transactions.
