The T-20 trains are similar to the local trains known as EMUs which doesn’t need locomotives and power cars to run and are self-propelled. It can touch speeds varying from 160-200kmph.

“As of now, it has been decided that T-20s will be maintained at Virar car shed. There is ample space created for the same purpose which at present is lying unused,” said a senior Indian Railways official on condition of anonymity.

The train coaches would be built by the Integral Coach Factory, Chennai and global tenders are also invited for the same. The approximate cost is around Rs 2700 crore. No manufacturers have come forth as of now so, Indian Railways is likely to miss the 2020 deadline.
