As the Indian Railways' first privately-operated train Tejas Express is all set to be flagged off from the New Delhi Railway Station next month, all eyes are on the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) for what special dishes it will offer in its all-new catering services to travellers in AC chair car and executive class coaches. Notably, the New Delhi-Lucknow Tejas Express, which will be flagged off on October 5, will be running on all days except Tuesdays.

For providing catering services on the Tejas Express, the IRCTC will charge a maximum of Rs 340 for chair car and Rs 385 for Executive Class, according to media reports, adding that passengers will be entitled to choose the combo meals on-board during their journey from New Delhi to Lucknow. Notably, this will be included in the train ticket prices.

Passengers travelling by AC chair will be required to pay Rs 185, while those travelling by Executive Class have to pay Rs 245 for the full-length journeys from New Delhi to Lucknow, as they will be offered some refreshment after boarding the train like Shatabdi Express or old Tejas Express trains.

Tejas Express passengers will be provided two options for immediate refreshments including tea/coffee with cookies in AC chair car, and premium cookies in executive class under option 1, while option 2 includes pre-packaged nimbu pani with cookies in chair car and flavoured lassi in executive class.

For the breakfast, passengers can choose between vegetarian combos from ‘vegetable cutlets with poha,’ ‘vegetable uttapam with vermicelli & coconut chutney,’ ‘medu vada with coconut chutney & suji upma’ and a non-vegetarian combo of ‘masala omelette with sauteed vegetables’. Executive class passengers will additionally be provided with cornflakes, sugar sachet and milk.

Notably, all the passengers of New Delhi-Lucknow Tejas Express, including chair car and executive class, will be served light refreshments just before the termination of the journey. It will include small masala samosa/branded cookies with tea/coffee for chair car passengers and muffin/slice of cake for executive class passengers.

The passengers will also have the option to order additional items from mishti dahi/mango dahi, brown bread, butter, tomato ketchup, fruit juice, tea/coffee kit, salt, pepper and mouth freshener, onboard their journey.

The Tejas Express passengers will also be able to enjoy shopping during the journey, as the IRCTC will provide onboard shopping facility, wherein, the vendors will sell cosmetic products, earphones, gadgets, perfumes, handbags, watches, purses, skincare products, gift items along with consumer goods.
 
Vendors will take a luggage trolley to every seat, and Sales executives present in a different dress will carry a POS (point of sale) machine, besides having a catalogue containing the information and price of the products. After buying the goods, passengers need to pay through digital mode through the POS machine.
