“We are trying to get the original look of this building back. We shall remove wooden partitions and extensions among other work,” said Ashwani Lohani, Chairman Railway Board.

The rail authorities have already shifted few of the offices that existed in the world heritage building. They will be carrying out improvement works without damaging the actual look of the structure. A detailed presentation was made on the same on Monday. The existing transport museum too is expected to be revived and recently a heritage gully was created next to platform 18 of CSMT station.

CSMT station also got new facilities like mobile charging points, mobile ticketing stalls and childcare helpline centres. Lohani first inaugurated the Self Ticketing Zone at the Suburban booking concourse (Star Chamber) where one can buy tickets through CoTVM, ATVM and QR code.

This facility also helps people in downloading the UTS app for booking local train tickets, show them the process and popularise it. For this the staff were present to teach commuters. At present there are mere 1 per cent or even less who buy local train tickets using the app.

Mobile charging points were also inaugurated at CSMT main line concourse. It supports 12 direct charging and 8 USB charging points. These shall be provided at CSMT (7), Dadar (4) and Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (5).
