By the close of 2016, the Ministry had introduced this 10% discount after allotment of vacant berths only in trains like Rajdhani, Duronto and Shatabdi, due to low turn up of passengers.

The government has now extended the scheme to include all the trains in the railways in a move seen to encourage rail travel.

On December 30, the Ministry of Railways issued a statement in this regards that said, “10% rebate shall be applicable on the base fare of last ticket sold for a particular class and train just before preparation of first chart.”

This facility, the railways said, will be available from January 1, 2017 for a period of six months on experimental basis.
