India to construct 100 airports, spend Rs 4.2 lakh crore: Suresh Prabhu
On the phenomenal growth in the Indian aviation sector, Suresh Prabhu said that this is not accidental as it is being led by PM Narendra Modi from the front.
Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu today said that as many as 100 new airports will be constructed in India in next 10 to 15 years with an investment of $60 billion (around Rs 4.2 lakh crore).
The minister was speaking on the occasion of International Aviation Summit. These airports are to be constructed through the public-private partnership, Prabhu added.
Prabhu and Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha also congratulated the aviation fraternity for achieving the 'unique milestone of 50 months of double-digit growth in the Indian Aviation sector'.

"At the International Aviation Summit organised to commemorate the unique milestone of 50 Months of Double-digit growth in the Indian Aviation sector. My congratulations to the Indian Aviation fraternity on this achievement! Our goal now is to prepare for a billion trips a year," said Prabhu.

Prabhu also said that the government is working on a cargo policy and is planning to have a cargo hub in India. According to IATA, India is expected to overtake Germany, Japan, Spain and the UK within the next ten years to become the world's third largest air passenger market.
Considering the growth, airport wise, another report has indicated that the Delhi's IGI Airport will beat London's Heathrow airport soon.
