The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday issued an alert for heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in most parts of the country as the southwest monsoon has advanced to more states. The weather agency predicted that the monsoon is expected to advance into remaining parts of Punjab and Haryana as well as more parts of Gujarat and Rajasthan in the next two days.

yellow and orange alerts have been issued for several districts of Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Kerala, Meghalaya, and Assam.  An orange alert has been issued for Maharashtra’s Raigad and Ratnagiri districts.

The weather forecaster further said that the southwest monsoon has advanced into the remaining parts of Maharashtra including Mumbai, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Rajasthan, most parts of Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, remaining parts of Uttarakhand, and some parts of Gujarat.

 

 

As per the IMD’s official statement there is a high probability of extremely heavy falls over Odisha on June 25 and 26. Similarly, Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh will witness heavy to very heavy rainfall on June 28 and 29.

Heavy rainfall is also likely over Northeast India during the next 5 days, the weather office said.

For entire Southern India except in Tamil Nadu, the weather department predicted light to moderate rainfall with isolated thunderstorms during the next 5 days.
