The Modi government gave huge relief to citizens on Monday afternoon by extending deadlines for completion of several important tasks including the last date to file income tax returns or even PAN-Aadhaar card linking. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman addressed a press conference in the wake of coronavirus outbreak in India and made these key announcements. She said that work is going on and an economic package will be announced sooner rather than later.

Here is the full list of dates extended by the finance minister -

  • Last date for filing of income tax return for FY2018-19 has been extended to June 30. Also, interest rate on delayed payment has been cut to 9 per cent from 12 per cent.
  • The government has also extended the last date for linking PAN with unique biometric ID Aadhaar card to June 30 from March 31.
  • Vivad se Vishwas tax dispute resolution scheme has been extended by three months to June 30. Those availing the scheme by the extended deadline will not have to pay 10 per cent interest on the principal amount.
  • Due dates for issuing various notices under the Income Tax Act have also been extended.
  • March- GST returns filing date extended to June 30. 
  • GST less than Rs 5 cr annual turnover - no interest no late fee no penalty.
  • Threshold of default extended to Rs 1 cr from existing Rs 1 lakh now to prevent insolvency proceedings against MSMEs
  • Threshold of default extended to Rs 1 cr from existing Rs 1 lakh now to prevent insolvency proceedings against MSMEs.
  • Sab ka Vishwas' indirect tax dispute redressal scheme has also been extended to June 30 and no interest on payment made till June 30 will be charged. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also set to address the nation at 8pm this evening over the Covid 19 issue.
