It is necessary to consume zinc every day as it does not get stored in our body like other micronutrients, says a DNA report. Here are some of the foods which you can include in your diet to boost your immunity and fight this deadly virus.

1. Shellfish: Zinc can be found in high amounts in seafood and other animal-based foods. An individual can consume oyster to include zinc in their diet as one oyster contains 50 percent of the recommended amount of zinc. Also, oysters are low in calories and hold vitamin B12 and selenium.

2. Meat: As already stated animal-based foods are a good source of zinc therefore you can include chicken, red meats and eggs in your diet to get this micronutrient in your body. However, you need to know that these food items are high in calories therefore the intake should be optimum.  

Meats are also rich in vitamin B12 and proteins which helps in cell regeneration and proper functioning of the nervous system.

3. Dark Chocolate: Cocoa is a rich source of zinc and flavanol. Apart from boosting immunity it also helps in regulating blood pressure and maintaining blood flow. It is advised that an individual should consume 28 grams of dark chocolate every day.

4. Legumes: These are considered to be the best source of zinc for vegetarians. It is also high in protein, magnesium, vitamins, iron, among others.

5. Pumpkin seeds and cashews: These are packed with zinc, iron, magnesium, copper, vitamin K, vitamin A, etc and can be eaten with oats, smoothies, or as a midday snack. Intake of pumpkin seeds and cashews regularly also helps in managing cholesterol and controlling blood pressure.
