IRCTC (Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation) is now offering a 'Premium Tatkal' quota for online ticket bookings. You can book the Premium Tatkal Ticket online through IRCRC's official website;  irctc.co.in and app. However, the Premium Tatkal tickets were introduced with dynamic fare pricing by Indian Railways.

According to IRCTC, dynamic fare stands for the fare component which may be increased with the subsequent bookings. Booking Premium Tatkal (PT) ticket is much costlier than Tatkal due to dynamic fare pricing, said IRCTC. The ticket prices vary according to the booking rate and seat available, as per an NDTV report.

  • Just like Tatkal ticket booking, the Advance Reservation Period (ARP) of Premium Tatkal ticket booking is also similar. The Premium Tatkal booking also opens at 10 AM for AC classes and 11 AM for non-AC classes, according to IRCTC.
  • As per IRCTC the ticket booking agents are not allowed to book any ticket in the Premium Tatkal Quota.
  • Confirmed passengers are charged dynamic fares.
  • Under this premium quota, Reservation Against Cancellation (RAC)/ Waitlist ticket bookings are not allowed.
  • I-ticket booking is not allowed under this quota, only e-tickets are permitted for booking
  • IRCTC mentioned that no concession is applicable under this quota.
  • At the time of booking, identity card number of the prescribed proof of identity is required. At least one passenger should carry orginal ID proof while travelling.
  • There is no concession for child passengers
  • In case of cancellation of the Premium Tatkal (PT) quota ticket, no refund is given to the passenger.
  • IRCTC notified that, all rules for tatkal quota booking over internet are also applicable to Premium Tatkal quota.
