Get ready for a housing bonanza, nearly 6 lakh homes will be in the market. MHADA was designated the special planning authority by the state government on May 23, and in less than a month, it has already received 60 proposals of which six have received various approvals.

The government last month allowed MHADA to become the planning authority for the 56 colonies of its comprising of 114 layouts and also the homes to constructed under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY urban). According to MHADA, since the time of appointment, they formed three cells that are active from MHADA building in Bandra, east.

“We received 60 proposals since then, of which one building was granted an Occupation certificate in Kurla, while five others were given various other permissions,” said the MHADA official.

Apart from this, MHADA officials say that currently there are some 2.10 lakh residents in the 114 layouts of MHADA in Mumbai, if all of them are redeveloped, apart from the 2.10 lakh rehab homes, additional 6 lakh homes will be generated that will be sold in the market.

“After MHADA has been appointed as the planning authority, the response has been good, we had hardly any proposals now. We have five dozen proposals and even approvals for six have been granted. This will fasten approval work and help buildings redevelop quicker,” said the official.

Most buildings are in dilapidated condition and need redevelopment, but it was stuck at various levels. Now with approvals being handed out at MHADA, from where these buildings need permissions, it is expected that redevelopment will be quick.

MHADA will get same online process as BMC to make approvals faster.
