In a major push towards clean and green mobility, Himachal Pradesh has announced a first-of-its-kind subsidy scheme to encourage private operators to switch to electric vehicles. As per the announcement made by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the state will offer a Rs 50 lakh subsidy to buy an electric bus and a Rs 10 lakh subsidy for electrical taxis.

Besides, the state will also offer a Rs 50 lakh subsidy to purchase electric trucks, said CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.

With this move, Himachal Pradesh will become the first state in the country to offer such lucrative incentives to private operators for the adoption of electric vehicles. 

The scheme is expected to create a significant shift towards sustainable and environmentally friendly transportation in the state, thereby reducing pollution and boosting the local economy.

“Himachal Pradesh will be the first in the country where private operators will get a Rs 50 lakh subsidy to buy an electrical bus, for electrical taxis Rs 10 lakh subsidy and a Rs 50 lakh subsidy to purchase trucks. We will convert into electrical vehicle & those who will take the subsidy will have a better livelihood & income: Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, CM Himachal Pradesh on Himachal Pradesh Budget 2023-24,” ANI tweeted.

The Chief Minister emphasised that the initiative would improve the livelihood of people associated with the transportation industry. 

He added that those who opt for the subsidy scheme would have a better income and would contribute to the development of the state.
