The Aviation sector in India is growing in every direction and the same holds true for helicopter services, which are connecting the tier II, Tier III cities, holiday hot spots and the hinterland like nothing else can. In this regard, the latest positive report comes in the form of the announcement by Chief Secretary Vineet Chawdhary. He and other officials today visited Rohtang for selection of feasible sites for the landing of choppers just a day after Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur announced that heli-taxi services would be run between Chandigarh and Manali as well as Manali and Rohtang

"Suitable sites have been seen and identified at Rohtang and its adjoining areas for the landing of heli-taxis and one of the identified sites would be chosen and the helipad would be constructed after completing all formalities," said Chawdhary. 

Chawdhary said that a team of Civil Aviation Department of the Union government would visit Kullu, Manali and Rohtang next week to finalise the heli-taxi landing sites. he also added that the of heli-taxi services would ease traffic congestion and reduce the driving time by eight to ten hours for going to Rohtang from Manali. 

The Chief Secretary said that once this heli taxi services start then tourists no longer have to face traffic congestions that lasts for at least eight to ten hours and delays the process of traveling. Now the tourists can reach Rohtang within a few minutes.

According to Chawdhary, this Heli-taxi services would increase the tourism activities in the region and will also provide more self-employment opportunities to the youths.
