Lord Mahavir is the 24th and last Tirthankara of Jainism. Mahavir Swami's birth anniversary is celebrated on Trayodashi Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month. This year Mahavir Jayanti is being celebrated on April 14.

Mahavir Swami, according to Jainism, conquered all of his senses after a 12-year period of severe penance. Later, Lord Mahavir took the form of Digambara and engaged in solitary meditation while remaining undressed.

Every year, devotees of Jainism commemorate Mahavir Jayanti with considerable enthusiasm. On this day, Jain temples are decorated with flowers and properly venerated. Processions are held at a variety of locations.
