Good news for people residing in the NCR region. Soon you will be able to zoom from Ghaziabad to Gurugram (Gurgaon) in just 40 minutes. The distance between Ghaziabad and Gurugram will become 55 km via a new rail corridor. At present, the travel time from Ghaziabad and Gurugram is around two and half hour by road.

The authorities have prepared the detailed project report for the Delhi-Shahjahanpur-Neemrana-Behror (SNB) route of the Delhi-Alwar high-speed corridor and it will be submitted to the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) board next month.

"The DPR for phase I, which is approximately 107 kilometres, is likely to be submitted to the board next month. The feasibility study is underway for phase II of the corridor which will be from SNB to Sotanala. The third phase will mark the completion of the project till Alwar," said Sudhir Sharma, NCRTC CPRO to ZeeBiz.com.

The total distance of the Delhi-Alwar corridor is 180 km. The corridor will have a total of 19 stations out of which 6 will be in Delhi. The total travel time between Delhi to Alwar will be around 117 minutes. The corridor is expected to have a daily ridership of 9.1 lakh.

The NCR Planning Board has identified as many as 8 high-speed rail corridors which will be built in the coming years.  The project is being implemented by the NCRTC. The rail-based Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) will reduce the dependence on road-based transportation like cars, bikes and diesel/petrol buses. In the first phase, three corridors - Delhi to Meerut, Delhi to Alwar and Delhi to Panipat - are being taken up for construction.
