The biggest highlight of the Tamil Nadu elections is not the rallies or speeches made by AIADMK's Jayalalithaa or DMK's Karunanidhi, but infact the freebies listed in their manifesto.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Thursday promised several freebies some of which include free mobile phones, free Wi-Fi in public places, free set-top boxes and even free laptops to school students if the AIADMK retained power in assembly elections.

Here are some of the highlights of AIADMK's manifesto listed by The Hindu and The NewsMinute:

  • Free Laptops with Internet for 10th and 12th std students.
  • Ban on Jallikattu to be lifted
  • Maternity assistance of Rs 18,000. Nine months leave.
  • 100 units electricity free every two months.
  • Relief for fisherfolk to be increased to Rs 5000. Separate scheme for construction of houses for fishermen.
  • Farmers loans to be paid Cooperative banks completely waived off
  • Rs 40,000 crores of farm loans to be given between 2016 to 2021.
  • Poor people to get Amma Banking Card to avail all government services
  • 20% land on SME industrial parks will be reserved for SC/ST entrpreneurs.
  • 10 lakh houses promised through various housing schemes.
  • One soverign gold for women ahead of marriages
  • Free cell phones for all ration card holders.
  • Rs 1 lakh for temples of local deities.
  • Women to be trained in driving vehicles and subsidy provided to buy autorickshaws.
  • Housing loans for govt. employees to be raised to Rs. 40 lakh
  • Education loans of students who are still unemployed to be paid by the govt.
  • Government to reimburse education loan.
  • Free Wi-Fi at public spaces.
  • Breakfast under nutritious meal scheme.
  • Guaranteed job to be provided for one person in each family
  • Ensure Karnataka won't build a dam across Cauvery
  • Link all the rivers flowing across TN
  • BPL families to be provided 4 goats for free
  • No FDI in retail in TN
  • Free buses rides for senior citizens
  • Monorail in Chennai, Madurai, Trichy and Coimbatore
