The food safety regulator FSSAI has directed the Commissioner of Food Safety of all the states and UTs to conduct tests of at least 10 samples of milk and milk products per FSW on a daily basis to keep a close watch on milk adulteration.

FSSAI wants consumers to be aware of any sort of adulteration of milk and milk products and asks them to get the products tested through the FSWs deployed nearest to their location.

The testing facility provided through FSWs is free of cost.

The purpose of the whole practice is to ensure that the consumers of the country get pure milk and milk products, FSSAI notification said.

At present, FSSAI has provided 168 FSWs across India to conduct on-the-spot food testing for various food products, including milk and milk products.

FSWs are equipped with the Milk-o-Screen system aimed at testing fats, solid-not-fat, protein, and adulterants like added water, urea, sucrose, maltodexterine, and ammonium sulphate.
