Durga Puja 2020 Calendar: While this year’s Durga Puja is likely to be different than the previous years in the wake of pandemic, the anticipation over has not become any less. The puja celebrations begin on 22 October and will carry on till 26 October. Every year, Durga Puja and Sharad or Sharadiya Navratri (which coincides with Durga Puja) are widely celebrated not just in the India but across the globe by the Indian diaspora.

Navratri is a nine-day festival of Indian goddesses. This year, the Navratri began on 17 October and will conclude on the 25 October, with Vijayadashami (Dussehra) on 25/26 October, depending upon the timings. The information has been sourced from Zee News.

Usually, Durga Puja begins six days after Mahalaya but this year it is different due to mala maas - lunar month having two moons. This year, Mahalaya, which is the beginning of the Devi Paksha and end of the Pitru Paksha took place on 17 September 17. 

The 5-day Durga Puja festivity is a major occasion for Bengalis and is celebrated by them with great pomp and show.

Day 3 – 23 October - Saptami, Kartik 06, 1427 
Day 4 – 24 October - Ashtami, Kartik 07, 1427, Durga Ashtami, Kumari Puja, Sandhi Puja, Maha Navami 
Day 5 – 25 October - Nabami, Kartik 08, 1427, Bengal Maha Navami, Durga Balidan, Navami Homa, Vijayadashami 
Day 6 – 26 October - Dashami, Kartik 09, 1427, Durga Visarjan, Bengal Vijayadashami, Sindoor Utsav 

Durgotsav, which is popularly known as Durga Puja is an annual affair where the followers of Durga or ‘Maa Durga’ start preparing for this occasion much in advance.
